Texas Red is a famed outlaw obsessed with fame and glory that only comes from winning gunfights and beating the best. Gunfights where second place is a tombstone. When an Arizona ranger rides into town looking for Texas Red, Red knows this man is different and is the best gunfighter he will ever face.
Red delays the gunfight for eight days so he can build the gunfight into the most famous gunfight in the west. Red immediately realizes that he must have a famed adversary in order to create a famed gunfight. Compared to the ranger, the 20 men he faced were not much more than target practice. Even the ranger’s brother, who Red cannot, or will not, remember.
The story explains how and why William becomes and develops into a greatly feared outlaw. Texas Red has genius level intellect, great wealth and a college degree. All at the age of 24.
